6 Books I Still Haven't Read

BLOGMAS DAY FIVE.
I don't think that it's unusual for a reader to have a collection of books on their shelf that they still haven't read yet, and I feel like if you're a book blogger then it's a probably-definite thing. I very rarely buy books that I don't want to read instantly, so it's not really a surprise that my collection of TBR books is fairly small - but still, today I thought I'd share with you 6 books that I still haven't read.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.
Buying this book was literally a case of 'everyone else is talking about it so I want it too'. So I ordered it and when it arrived I kind of stuck it onto my bookshelf and haven't picked it up since. I'm not even sure what it's about to be honest. I want to read it because I've had it for like 3 years but I just don't have the urge to actually do it.
Cinder by Marissa Meyer.
Another case of 'everyone else loved it so I bought it'. I've heard nothing but good things about this book, from people whose opinion I really trust but again I just have no urge to read it. I've never read anything sci-fi before and I think that's what's putting me off as I don't really know what to expect.
Allegiant by Veronica Roth.
Ah, Allegiant. The ending of this book was spoiled for me, I think back when I first picked up Divergent. So already knowing the giant plot-twist is kind of putting me off reading this, but also the fact that everyone seems to really dislike it. I've heard that the writing quality gets really poor, and Tris and Tobias's relationship gets irritating. I enjoyed Insurgent and liked Divergent, so I'm a bit hesitant to read this as I don't want it to spoil the series for me!
Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.
I think I got this in the same order with The Night Circus, so this book has been on my shelf for a matter of years. I was actually really excited to read it because I adored the film and I love reading books that are set in that kind of time period but I just haven't read it. Again, it's like I want to read it because I've had it so long but at the same time I just don't want to!
Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard.
Why haven't I read this?? I was so excited about it when it came out and added it straight onto my 'to read' shelf on Goodreads, then and I bought it, read the first chapter or two and then put it down and didn't pick it back up. It turned out to be a bit more action-y than I thought and we all know I've kinda moved out of my dystopian phase, so that's generally the reason why I haven't read it yet.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
My old ICT tutor actually gave this to me back when I was in year 10, so I've had this for a pretty long time! Everyone else seems to really really love this book, but I just couldn't get into it. I did try, but I just couldn't wrap my head around the writing style. I wish that this book could be for me what it is for everyone else, but it's really not!

Have you read any of these books and think that I need to give them a second chance?

  1. I've only read one of these books. The Night Circus. Honestly I really didn't like it myself. It took me ages to finish it!

  2. Oh, I definitely thing the Divergent series went downhill. Divergent was great, Insurgent was okay and Allegiant was meh. I don't regret finishing them, because I still liked the overall story - I just think the first blew the other two out of the water!
The only other that I've read is The Book Thief. Definitely worth a read, but I thought it was a little slow and difficult to get into in parts. One of those where I'm not sure how much I'm enjoying it whilst reading, but by the end I'm lost for words.

  3. I've read every single one except Water for Elephants and I can tell you now that they're all worth it - except maybe Allegiant because yeah it could spoil the entire series for you - but maybe read it all the same? I don't remember much about Red Queen other than that it was really interesting, and Cinder was clever, and the Book Thief was just plain good. Just read them.

  4. The only book I've read is 'Water for Elephants' which I picked up on a whim way before the movie was a thing. It's a really great story and really well written from what I can remember. =^-^=

  5. The Book Thief is one of my favourite books. It took me a few chapters to get used to the writing style but once I did I enjoyed it so much!

The Night Circus was quite good but I must admit I didn't have that feeling that I had to rush home to read the next chapter. Worth a read though in my opinion.
