Postcards From Somerset

If you've read my past few posts, you'll know that I went on holiday last week. My dad, brother and I took a short break to Somerset, which was the first family holiday we've been on together in over 8 years! My boyfriend stopped off to visit us on our last evening so that we could watch the sunset together, but other than that it was mostly just me and my dad spending time together as my brother had to go home early because of his GCSEs. If you saw this tweet, then you'll have known about the amazing news that my family received regarding my Dad, so it was nice to relax together without that horribleness lingering over us. He is still quite ill, but at least he's in remission for now! I might write a blog post about living with an ill parent, so let me know if that's something you'll be interested in reading.

ANYWAY, the holiday. We stayed in Brean, but spent a majority of our time flitting between Brean, Burnham and Weston. I absolutely adore Somerset. I love the way that within a fifteen minute drive, you can drive past the beach, a teeming high street and a dozen fields full of cows and sheep. I love how fresh the air is. I love spending £10 on 2p slot machines, only to walk away with some key rings to show for it. I love how nice the chips are down there. I love the feel of hot sand beneath my bare feet. I love cliché little tourist shops that sell fudge and clotted cream biscuits and buckets and spades. I love how crappy the internet service is, because you really have no choice but to focus and find entertainment within the world around you. I love waking up every morning, popping on a bikini and going swimming. I love the taste of traditional Cornish ice cream.

But most of all, I love standing with my feet being splashed by the freezing cold ocean, watching the sun set, the sky turning pink and orange and purple. This time last year I was incredibly depressed, self harming and having almost daily panic attacks. I swore to myself that if I made it through the rest of 2014, if I recovered, then I would get to watch the beach sunset again. And I did.

I hope that you liked this post! And I hope that you get a little taste of Somerset through my photos. It was a little photo heavy but I took so many photos that I love, I wanted to post them all! xx

  5. Wow, that sunset is breathtaking! I always seem to be in the spot on the beach that the sunset never reaches D:
But looks like you had a great holiday then, great to hear about your dad and great to hear you are doing so great yourself. Keep your head up and keep up that positivity :)

  8. Oh my goodness that sunset is beautiful! I love reading all those things you loved about your little time away at the seaside, it really reminded me of going on holiday to Bridlington, Scarborough, Whitby etc. I just loved getting those little £1 pots of seafood then going to the shack next door for hot waffles fruit & ice cream & walking along the seafront eating them with the little tatty gift shops selling quirky random things made with shells and rocks and the multicoloured sand. Oh my god I could go on forever haha! Looks amazing though! I wish I could go down there...it's so far haha! Beautiful post Lauren ♡
