Flat Chested & Fabulous

So today, I'm going to talk about boobs. Or should I say lack-of boobs. Yep, you read that right: todays post is all about us flat chested ladies.

I've always been very self-conscious about the size of my boobs, but I think it began to get me down a lot more back when MSN was around. Half of the guys on my friends list would pop up in chat, hidden behind their laptop screens, and ask for my bra size. I was around 13 at the time, and my bra size was a 30aa. Naturally, I lied about my size, and told them I was like a 34C or something ridiculous, just because they wouldn't stop nagging and all of my friends had disclosed their truthful size. All of my friends were beginning to... blossom around that time, where-as I still had the same chest size I'd had since I was 10. I didn't even really need to wear a bra, to be honest, but the number-and-letter combination that marked my size began to drive me insane.

Going underwear shopping with friends at the age of 14 was an exciting and 'grown up' experience for me, and we took our time looking around Primark and wherever else pointing out pretty floral bras with matching underwear, and giggling at the idea of buying a set that came with a thong. But I never made any purchases. Why? Because the women's section of the stores didn't ever stock my size. And honestly, 95% of them don't stock my size now, either.
Because the truth of the matter is: I have really small boobs. And if they haven't made a miraculous jump in cup size at the age of 20, they're probably never going to. These tiny little things are here with me for life. And I'm okay with that. One of my teenage worries was about boys being repulsed by my teeny tiny boobage, but in reality, boys (and many girls) just like boobs. And I've also come to realise that I don't care if boys don't like my boobs - they're not for them, ya know? They're not even for my boyfriend, although he has never, ever made any kind of comment about my bra size. He just says I'm easier to cuddle. There's something liberating about fully embracing the fact that your body is yours.

I wanted to write this post as a kind of encouragement, not just for other girls out there, but for me too. Because yes, I shop in the teenage section of stores to buy my bras and I can't wear a strapless top without it falling down. But having small boobs doesn't make me less of a woman. It just means that I can sleep without a bra on and I can lie on my stomach without being uncomfortable. Also a reminder: there are many things that don't flatter a large bust that do flatter a small bust, and vice versa.

So horray for small boobs! I here-by pledge that I will never talk about getting a boob job ever again. I will never be upset by the fact that my bra size is considered a 'starter bra' size. And I will also never again be embarrassed about buying my bras from the teenage section of stores - no one reads the label on my bra aside from me, so how would they know anyway? xx

This is not a post intending to disrespect women with bigger boobs - they're just as gorgeous. It's just one to celebrate the smaller busts of the world.

  2. I love this! Another member of the itty-bitty-titty-committee checking in. I used to be so self-conscious about it as well. (Middle schoolers and high schoolers can be so RUDE) But you are so right whenever you say most guys just like boobs. And I hear of the struggles of big boobs all around and there really is pros and cons to each one! Also, I totally wear thick padded bras too. Some shirts just fit better that way! But I don't mind them so much now.

    1. YES school was such a nightmare for me and my tiny boobs. Totally agree that some clothes fit better with a padded bra, but I'm glad that I have the option haha :) x

  3. I had TINY boobs until I got to about 21/22 and now they're very 'ample' (hate that word) and around a C cup. I always thought I wanted bigger boobs but now I wish I was still flat chested - my boobs make clothes hang off them and make me look like I'm wearing a smock! :(

Absolutely brilliant that you're embracing what you've got! :)

  5. Haha I absolutely LOVED reading this, Lauren! I also happen to be pretty flat-chested but I'm pretty lucky to have grown up in a community that's never ever put pressure on us girls' bra sizes or something. But I totally get what you mean and I also think that I'm okay with it right now. You take what you get and make it yours, you gotta embrace what you have! This post was so well-written, thank you so much for sharing!
