What's On My Bookshelf #2

It feels like such a long time since I've actually sat down and blogged! But my bedroom was being re-decorated and so I've been investing all of my spare time into helping out with the process. I think I'm about half way finished, but I'm actually typing this post on my brand new desk (!!) which I am super excited about. I've been having the best time organising all of my little trinkets and I have a huge framed photo of Audrey Hepburn on the wall which is lovely to look at. I'm planning maybe a photo/inspiration collage to go above my desk for motivational purposes but I'll probably let you guys know when I make the decision, maybe through a Pinterest Inspiration post or something.

ANYWAY. The reason I went on that long ramble in the first place was to explain this month's 'What's On My Bookshelf' post. These are the book that I took with me whilst I was staying at my boyfriends during aforementioned decoration process. Now, as all of my stuff was boxed up, I couldn't get to any of my books so I had to pick and choose the ones I'd want to read and keep them safely with me during the long nights Luke spends on Fifa 14. Yawn.

The Selection by Kiera Cass. I brought this with me to satisfy any 'romancy' cravings. The Selection is a romantic dystopian novel, filled with royalty and rebels. The main plot centres around The Selection, a contest held in order to find the Prince a wife. Our main character, America, gets pulled into The Selection unwillingly and we watch as she falls in love (or hate) with Prince Maxon.

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. Brought with me simply because of how much I adore THG series. I couldn't not bring one with me, right? The second book in the trilogy, Katniss is left to deal with the emotional consequences of surviving The Hunger Games and question everything she knows about the authority that runs the country. A middle book that's not suffering the middle book syndrome - yay!

My Love Lies Bleeding by Alyxandra Harvey. I brought this book with me as it's one that I've had for a very long time and yet have never finished. It's a vampire book (which was my thing a few years ago) and honestly, I'm unsure if I'm going to keep it or simply donate it to charity. The basic plot of the story is that Solange (one of the mc's) is the first born vampire female and poses a threat to the vampire queen for this reason. She is soon kidnapped and it's up to her best (human) friend and brother to save her.

The Vampire Diaries - The Awakening & The Struggle by LJ Smith. I'm a huge Vampire Diaries fan, tv-wise, but I've never really put much effort into reading the books despite owning five of them. Oops. Definitely on my TBR. I've heard it's very different from the show, though, and after reading a few chapters I definitely agree. Damon & Stefan (hot vampire brothers) are still vying for human Elena's affection and Elena's doppelgänger and the Salvatore Brothers long-lost love Katherine is still a factor, so I'm looking forward to seeing how these plots play out in novel-form.

The Fellowship Of The Ring by JRR Tolkien. The first book in the Lord Of The Rings series and still on my TBR list, just like it was last month. I really want to get around to finishing this book but I never seem to manage it. I think I'm definitely going to push it up to my number 1 TBR spot this month.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Finally found my copy of this beloved novel and read a few pages at the beginning of this month but I'm not 100% I'm going to read it. I find the writing style really choppy and confusing but I'm going to push through until at least half-way before putting it down. Set in WW2 Germany and narrated by Death, the story features a young girl who moves in with foster parents during the war, and ends up hiding a Jewish man within their home. It sounds like a beautiful story, so I'm definitely going to persevere with it.

Harry Potter and the Order Of The Phoenix by JK Rowling. The fifth instalment in the Harry Potter series, Harry returns back to Hogwarts following his recent disastrous experience with Voldemort to discover that not everyone believes it happened. A definite case of PTSD is evident in Harry during this novel, something I find intriguing and truthful. A lot of people dislike this book and up until recently I was one of them, however I've fallen in love with it. I'm about 100 pages from the end, but once finished I think I'm going to skip back to the Philosophers Stone and start the series again!

Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion. I've read this book before, but I'm planning on re-reading it so I can review it here on my blog. Basic plot: R is a zombie, but he doesn't want to be. On a hunting trip into town, he finds Julie, a human girl, and decides to take her back with him in order to protect her from the other zombies. A very good read and it also made a great film, too.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. Naturally, this book was with me. My favourite novel and one that holds a dear place in my heart, I couldn't leave it behind. Charlie is a wallflower - he's socially awkward, introverted and looks at the world differently to other people. We follow him during his first year of high school, where he attempts to step into the real world for the first time. I think of Charlie as my fictional personification - I relate to him flawlessly and his story is one I return to if I'm having a hard time.

So there you have it! These are my current reading options, at least until I get around to unpacking the rest of my books. I hope you all have a lovely weekend, but if you have nothing to do how about a ponder at last month's What's On My Bookshelf? (here)
