Top 5 Books I Haven't Finished

So, last night I was sat all curled up with Luna, jotting down blog ideas when this post came to me: Top 5 Books I Haven't Finished Yet. And so I scanned my bookshelf looking for books to feature when I realised that I had a vast majority to choose from. I am (shamefully) one of those people who will start reading something and then abandon it mid-way through to move on to bigger and better things books. So who knows, there may be a Part Two of this post coming soon, but for now here are the books I really need to pick up again.

The Fellowship Of The Ring by JRR Tolkien.
I am approx. 100 pages into this book and they haven't left The Shire yet. It's just so long. And whilst I adore reading all of the little details that weren't featured in the films, they're mixed up with a bunch of mundane situations that are explained in a bit too much detail. I really, really want to get through this soon though, as I've heard the next two books are a million times better!
City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare.
This book was the main focus of my very first post here on What Lauren Did Today, but I haven't reached for it since. I don't even know why. Cassie Clare is one of my favourite writers and her writing really does suck me in, I just have no urge to pick this up! I think the brother-sister story line is my biggest problem with this book, as I adore romance and it's certainly lacking in what I've read so far.

A Game Of Thrones by George RR Martin.
I have a confession to make: I skip parts of this book. Large parts in fact. As it turns out, the only character I'm really interested in is Daenerys and her narrative is the only section of this book I actually read. I just can't connect to the other characters! Please convince me to read this, I want to love it but I just can't.

Paper Towns by John Green.
I have no excuse for not finishing this. I honestly don't know what happened, I just started reading something else and kind of forgot about it. I've heard its amazing and I adored Looking For Alaska, so I don't know what the hold up is! Definitely moving to the top of my TBR pile!

The Diary Of A Young Girl by Anne Frank.
Another case of the 'I-Don't-Know-What-Happened's. This book is so interesting and full of history and Anne has the most hilariously sarcastic narrative, I don't know why I'm not reading it! I really want to finish it before the end of this year, because it's my birthday in February and no doubt I'll get a load of books then!

  1. I have heard everyone say the LOTR books are ridiculously hard to read, I did happen to take a flick through the first one my friend had and even the font is tiny and very squished together, it put me right off. I am the same though, I'll get half way through a book and then by a new one and so on and so on. "The unlikely pilgrimage of harold fry" was a book I couldn't set down though. & Atm I am reading "Gone Girl" which is another page turner. Really would like to read Anne Frank's diary, visited her house in Amsterdam and was fascinated by her, as well as John Green's paper towns I feel like I am the only person who does not own that book.

I love the idea behind this post, hopefully it'll persuade me to get mine read too! We could start a book club? lol

    1. Yes, there is so much writing on just one page of The Fellowship, it seems like you'll never reach the bottom!

Wow, I'm so jealous you've been to Amsterdam! It seems like such a gorgeous place to visit. & I really need to get a move on and finish Paper Towns, I don't know why it's taking me so long haha

As for the book club - that would be amazing haha! xx

  2. I saw a lot of people mention on /r/books that LOTR gets a lot easier after the Shire! I keep meaning to start re-reading it but so many other books :')

  3. Yeah, LOTR is hard to read. I've read them all but I was so bored through a lot of the story... The Hobbit, on the other hand, is fantastic! I can also agree that the Game of Thrones books are difficult to get into (the huge amount of characters and places confused be until I was at least half way through the first!) but I did love it. They each took me 3 weeks to read - that was a long GOT filled summer!
I love Cassandra Clare, and I loved that series, though I did prefer the Infernal Devices series! (maybe one to check out!) Diary of A Young Girl is great too... Yeah, the only one I really wouldn't try to persuade you to finish is Paper Towns. Not a fan of John Green xD

    1. It's so annoying because I want to love the LOTR books so much! & I've actually already read The Infernal Devices and it's easily one of my favourite book series, I think it's so much better than The Mortal Instruments which is why I'm not liking them so much! Thank you for your comment x

  4. Ahh, I thought I was the only one who hasn't read The Mortal Instruments series - I own the first two books, but I haven't started them yet! I also own The Lord of The Rings trilogy, but I'm a little worried about starting them - though I read and loved The Hobbit!
I haven't read A Game of Thrones but I love the TV Series - are they very different? x

    1. I know how you feel - it seems like everyone has read TMI! Definitely going to start The Hobbit soon though, after I watch the film though so my boyfriend & I can experience the ending together! x

    2. Also, from what I've read the GoT seems quite similar so far, but I do think they go off of the story line sometimes in the TV show x
