Mini Spring Book Haul

Hihi! I have a little book haul for you all today. It's been so long since I've bought a lot of books at one time - in fact since Christmas I've only bought two other books aside from these five. It's very exciting to be adding new books to my shelf, though, and I'm even more excited about it because I genuinely can't wait to read all of these!

Kindred Spirits by Rainbow Rowell.
If you broke Elena's heart, Star Wars would spill out. So when she decides to queue outside her local cinema to see the new movie, she's expecting a celebration with crowds of people who love Han, Luke and Leia just as much as she does. What she's not expecting is to be last in a line of only three people; to have to pee into a collectible Star Wars soda cup behind a dumpster or to meet that unlikely someone who just might truly understand the way she feels.

I didn't actually know what this was about when I bought it - I just knew it was YA and written by Rainbow Rowell who is one of my auto-buy authors. But since reading the blurb and the first few pages I'm really excited to read this! As it's a suuuuper short short story (it's like, 90-something pages) I think it'll be something I'll read in one sitting which is just what I need to get me out of this reading slump!
The Boyfriend List by E Lockhart.
Ruby Oliver is 15 and has a shrink. She knows it’s unusual, but give her a break—she’s had a rough 10 days. In the past 10 days she: lost her boyfriend (#13 on the list), lost her best friend (Kim), lost all her other friends (Nora, Cricket), did something suspicious with a boy (#10), did something advanced with a boy (#15),  had an argument with a boy (#14), drank her first beer (someone handed it to her), got caught by her mom (ag!), had a panic attack (scary), lost a lacrosse game (she’s the goalie), failed a math test (she’ll make it up), hurt Meghan’s feelings (even though they aren’t really friends), became a social outcast (no one to sit with at lunch) and had graffiti written about her in the girls’ bathroom (who knows what was in the boys’!?!). But don’t worry—Ruby lives to tell the tale. And make more lists.

I picked this up in a charity shop recently and of course the name E Lockhart was the reason it caught my eye, but I also liked the sound of the title. I enjoy all types of lists but The Boyfriend List sounds a bit juicier than my grocery list. After reading the back and discovering that this book was also about anxiety and panic attacks and that it would set me back just 5op of course I bought it. I've had a quick browse on Goodreads and it seems to have pretty good reviews and despite the apparent plotline it also seems quite light-hearted, at least compared to the following books in this haul! For some reason I'm expecting it to be a bit like the Georgia Nicholson series by Louise Rennison. Idk why.
Seed by Lisa Heathfield.
All that Pearl knows can be encapsulated in one word: Seed. It is the isolated community that she was born into. It is the land that she sows and reaps. It is the center of her family and everything that means home. And it is all kept under the watchful eye of Papa S. At fifteen years old, Pearl is finally old enough to be chosen as Papa S’s companion. She feels excitement... and surprising trepidation that she cannot explain. The arrival of a new family into the Seed community — particularly the teenage son, Ellis — only complicates the life and lifestyle that Pearl has depended upon as safe and constant.

I recently asked on Twitter for some recommendations of dark/intense YA reads and Seed was mentioned by several people so of course I had to pick it up. I've actually already read the opening chapter of this book and o m f g it's intense. I can tell I'm going to love this! I'm getting an Only Ever Yours kind of vibe from it which excites me.
Faceless by Alyssa Sheinmil.
When Maisie Winters wakes up, she’s in the hospital. The last thing she remembers is running through the hills of her neighborhood one misty morning. Slowly, she puts the pieces together. Before she could make it home, a storm gathered. Lightning hit a power line and sparks rained down, the hot-burning electrical fire consuming her. Destroying her face. Where her nose, cheeks, and chin used to be, now there is…nothing. Maisie’s lucky enough to qualify for a rare medical treatment: a face transplant. At least, everyone says she’s lucky. But with someone else’s features staring back at her in the mirror, Maisie looks—and feels—like a stranger. The doctors promised that the transplant was her chance to live a normal life again, but nothing feels normal anymore. Before, she knew who she was—a regular girl who ran track and got good grades, who loved her boyfriend and her best friend. Now, she can’t even recognize herself.

Another book recommended on Twitter! I feel like this one is going to be more intense than Seed, but in a completely different way. I'm so excited to start reading this but I'm also feeling a bit wary about it because it does seem to be something that I'll find difficult to read.
 7 Days by Eve Ainsworth.
This bold, compelling and topical story about bullying is told from the perspective of the bully and the bullied. You won't be able put it down until you've reached the conclusion. Jess's life is difficult enough without Kez picking on her – it’s turning school from a safe place into a nightmare. Kez has plenty of problems too but she finds comfort in knowing she is better off than Jess - or so she thinks.

Yet another Twitter recommendation! And another book that sounds very intense and interesting to read. If you couldn't tell already, I'm SO into dark YA books at the moment. And I feel like this one is again intense in a different way to Seed and Faceless.

Now... which one shall I read first?!
